Once a week? For Charles to say that, one would assume he did not even do it once a week?

You worked to hard Mr Darwin.

Once a day seems sparse.

I am happiest when I let music free me from my cares and worries.

Like Judy said in her comment, it might have been harder for him to hear music without our technology... What kind(s) of music do you like best?

Seems odd that Darwin did it so infrequently (at least the music), but it is one of the benefits of our technological age: I read a poem and listen to music every day.

I suspect you're right about Darwin's "infrequency." Aren't we lucky in this regard?

I didn’t think of that. Wow. We take our blessings for granted don’t we! (Or I. )

My favorites are jazz, classical and sting.

"Sting?" As in the singer?

I try to do both, listen to music and read poetry, at least once a day. It helps keep me balanced and happy in these very challenging times.

Oh, yes!

Every day!

What's one of your favorite kinds of music?

Country and the music that is played on the Coffeehouse channel of Sirus

radio which I can't describe. A lot of it is acoustic and some original.

I play that Coffeehouse channel a lot when driving!

Jeez, how often? How about throughout the day, every day? I start and end each day with poetry, and music is interspersed throughout. Once a week -- what a poor life that sounds like!

Darwin was living in another era when LISTENING, at least, was harder than it is for us. Aren't we lucky?

Expand full comment

We certainly are. I can understand not listening to music in that era, but poetry?

Yeah, maybe he was too busy reading science? Collecting specimens?

Expand full comment

Yes. That sting. His jazz is just wonderful
