Thank you, Phyllis, for this lovely, timely poem... as my mother is in hospice. Larry Schug's opening lines, "Our bodies die like the bodies of trees. / No matter how we strive for the sky..." will stay with me in these waning days of my mother's life.
Thank you for this, Phyllis. This "song" is lovely and so beautiful to know we leave behind our own song - to not be forgotten. Blessings to you always!
This brings to mind the Indigenous belief that each human haas a song that they sing before their travel onward. I have a song and when I am in distress I do sing it. What we leave behind has meaning in energetic waves and memory....song is like that. Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you, Brigid!
You are also in my prayers, Jan. This also made me think of my mom, who died of cancer in 1983. Such a beautiful poem. Prayers and love to you.
You’re a dear to wrap Jan in care, Lisa!
Thank you, Lisa.
What is your mother’s name, Jan? I will lay a blessing stone for her and you and all who love her.

But our souls are songbirds...
My soul's song is nourished this morning, and I thank you Phyllis, as always, for providing a raft of nourishment. 💕

Your song is glorious, Myrtle!
Oh my, this poem knocked my melancholy sock feathers off. And the poet is a fellow Minnesotan! Thank you both, Larry and Phyllis.
