>>>All of which is to say, my friend—you and I never know how the words we say might be carried by others.<<< Yes, indeed, to this truth. Ongoing thanks for all the ways YOU work with WORDS!

Words are magic-makers, Emily, as you know well! You're a magician!

Just amazing how a string of disparate words can capture a thought, concept, idea etc., and touch us to our core. That you can distill feelings and concepts into a few well crafted words is like a force of nature. Gardner was a force for dignity and care; he also founded the Experience Corp. For anyone unfamiliar with Rod McGiver, many thanks Phyllis for the mention. Have followed him since his early days he has been a verbal and visual lifesaver at times. You two are most definitely kindred spirits.

To be kind….to be kind….to be kind, in thought, word & deed.

That also came into my mind after reading today’s Raft ❤️

Thanks, Phyllis! Such good thoughts to start the day! So true, that we do not know how the words we say might be carried by others. I have been reminded of that again & again over the years by former students and parishioners. It is a bit scary! And it is a reminder to be mindful to be grounded in my true center, and to speak and write in love.

Mindfulness practice is so . . . EVERYTHING. Someone asked me the other day, "What is the opposite of mindfulness?" I would say, inattention, or indifference. How about you?

I would also say letting the old voices that tell me what I should be doing distract me from what’s really happening, and from a grounded center- my “true spot”

Oh yes, those "old voices." I've got a few of those!

I was so struck by this quote that I went to Gardener’s speech and read part of it. They were helpful words as I sat this morning pondering boredom and accomplishment- where I was and where I might be going. I am still dealing with an unexpected end to my ministry and where I go from here. I was also pondering the various creative paths I like to follow and where, if anywhere, I want to go with them. Gardener’s words give me hope that I can fashion something and that it’s okay that it is for myself and not always others.

I'm so happy that Gardener's quote provided you with a nudge. I truly believe that when we fashion our lives from our true spot, we affect others profoundly. That's a profound starting point.

Thank you for yesterday’s conversation on Neuro pathways. My comment about having 2 occupations that required me to be an expert or at least highly skilled was actually a new revelation I had during that discussion. I have a new understanding about how I approach my creativity.

Thank you for this...words are indeed such carriers of feeling and intent, but the listener must also be open to them. This is often my prayer, that I be like a field ready to be planted. (Can you tell that I yearn for Spring???)
