Phyllis, I just enjoyed (with my eyes closed meaningfully) the discussion of the value of poetry you shared through Myrtle’s program. I particularly relished the mention of bridging the divide with your elderly father in his wheelchair, your tantalizing him through his interests with poems. As a former medical librarian, you caught my ear with mention of the healing powers of poetry. Such good stuff.
On a personal note, I am gettick a kick out of finding places to share my poetry - recently submitting one to our Green Mountain Club (outdoor rec enthusiasts) newsletter, our local AAUW newsletter. One of my creative highlights was collaborating on a response to modern art by pairing a poem of mine to an untitled work. This was by invitation from James Crews. I am excitedly waiting to hear whether he will be chosen as Vermont Poet Laureate, for which I nominated him.
And with all this shared, time for a cup of coffee. Best wishes to you and thanks for your inspiration, Berta
Oh, I loved this response, Berta! Keep sharing your poetry—you are scattering beautiful seeds. And I'm delighted that you nominated James for VPL—what a good poet, and a finer man! Have another cup of coffee on me!
Excellent presentation. It was in a sense, Phyllis’ science and explanation of what poetry means to me: to read it or write it. One single paragraph of Phyllis’ poem that touched me deeply is why I’ve been a fan and member of the Raft.
Great riff on poetry. I especially loved the story about your dad and how you encourage others to reclaim poetry as a common form of expression rather than something for the educated "elite." Thanks also to Myrtle Russell for hosting you and allowing us to hear the content as well.
You are most welcome Phyllis! And thank you for sharing the power of poetry!
So generous, Myrtle! Deep bows.

Which poem "touched you deeply", Noreen? Just curious what brought you to The Raft. So glad you're here!
Thank you. My true spot was fed.
Now I have a new way of relieving the ache for more within me.
I went to see "A year of being."
I realize I need a long break what my usual go to in order to awaken the spirit within.
Thanks.

Thanks for attending to this riff, Karen. And, yes, isn't Myrtle generous? She'll be doing a workshop on gratitude journaling on The Raft in March.
Oh, that sounds great! Nothing like some good collaboration and cross-pollination!
