I'm struck at how lyrical the poem is, with several internal rhymes. It has great movement, vivid imagery -- what powerful memory after all these years. Maybe there is more here?

I love playing with internal rhyme, though I don't want it to be obvious. And your instincts match mine, Ronnie—I feel drawn to the possibilities in that long ago time in Belize. We'll see what (if anything) comes forward.

Maybe houses on legs are an archetype of sorts....reminded me of Baba Yaga's house on chicken legs. I think it danced around, or turned in circles. I was fascinated as a child by that story as interpreted in Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition". Now there's something to explore!
