I love this. As a painter, my big, huge, solid (when it's shut!) gate, is me. I'm a visual artist, and

always have to get past my own intimidating "gate" to dare to create. What a powerful visual

for me personally, to realize that I just need to prop my gate open, and not be so afraid that I just

might not create a masterpiece, but just dig in and create. Thank you, Phyllis I plan to print this

out and tape it on my studio wall. Hugs

We all struggle with the gate! Let's embrace the struggle and make friends with it! Paint away, my friend!

SO beautiful it makes my heart sing (and my gate swing). I try hard not to need affirmation from others on my creative works. However, I sure love a nice email of appreciation from a reader! And when Deepak Chopra wanted to interview me on my latest book, it didn't hurt either. However, I STILL have moments when I become the cranky gate-keeper who questions, "Is it worth it?" "Does anybody care?" "Should I just go lie on the beach instead?" Then I wake up with words in my head that must be written down at 2am, and I continue. Because I must.

Thank you, Phyllis, for once again blessing me with encouragement to dance with my creativity, my poetry. I, too, sometimes wake up wanting to get some lines down before they disappear! Sometimes,I "think" in lines of poetry, astonishing as that is to me. What a wonder to celebrate the making just for itself.

Deep Bows to you and thanks again,

Julie

Thank you for this lovely and encouraging letter, and, as always your honesty. Though I’ve loved poetry for decades attending the Dodge poetry festival regularly, writing is a new adventure for me. It’s a result of Covid and the extravagance of zoom. I have taken many workshops on poetry with you, James Crew, Rosemary Wahtola Trommer and others. What I long for is a circle of poets where we freely discuss and encourage and offer feedback on what we’re sharing. I’m tired of writing poems in a vacuum. Well, maybe I’m just lonely from doing that. I prefer it be a local in person gathering and I’m in the process of researching all of that. Do you know of anything on Zoom that might offer such an experience. Thank you Linda Klopp

As it happens, Linda, we're hoping to launch such a group here on the Raft. I know you'd prefer an in-person gathering, but a Zoom group might be helpful, too. Stay tuned.
