From participant Tom Shostak:

The quote that I mentioned today in the Poetry Pick-Me-Up session is:

"When I look inside and see that I am nothing, that is wisdom. When I look outside and see that I am everything, that is love." It is by the Hindu teacher Nisargadatta, who is best known for his teaching of nondualism. His most famous book is "I Am That."

What I suggested in response to this is that what has happened in our country today is that we have reversed this idea. Many of us look inside and think we are everything, and when we look outside ourselves, we think we see that it is nothing. That has created many of the problems we have in our world, the Buddhists say that it results in greed, anger, and ignorance.
