My goal is finally not to think in categories like bad and good luck. We think we know, but the truth is: we don’t have a clue. So many things turned out to be wonderful beginnings in my life where I just thought of bad luck. But that’s something we only can see in hindsight.

Wish you all the best and a quick recover Phyllis!

Sending you healing light, Phyllis & visualizing a good recovery for you 🙏

Some luck, some grace, some serendipity &, of course, some fairy dust….I believe in these 🧚‍♀️

I also believe some things just happen haphazardly 🤷‍♀️

Holding you in light as your body rests and heals. 💕

That quote made think of a skit/song from Hee Haw, a show my dad loved when I was a kid: "if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all! Gloom, despair and agony on me." 🎶🎶 (which will now be stuck in my head all day! 😅😂

I have had many experiences when the blessing was VERY well disguised, and the "bad luck" grew into a goodness that i could only see in hindsight. And sometimes we face an agony that carves out a new way of seeing and being in the world. One we wouldn't have chosen, but that opens us in deep way.

I agree with the people who have said that you never really know whether that what you feel is bad luck then turns out to be good luck in hindsight. That said, I used to always lose my luggage when I traveled, every time I would need to bring extra clothes with me in my backpack because I wouldn't get my suitcase until days after arriving somewhere. Since marrying my beloved, who has always claimed to be a very lucky person, we have only had this happen once in all the years we've been together! So....the jury is out on this one! Sending hugs and lots of healing vibes your way!

I certainly don't believe in random "luck" or some kind of arbitrary Fate. To me, the universe is ordered and intelligent but operating on a much vaster scale (and in more dimensions) than we can perceive with the senses and normal states of egoic awareness. Your quote from McCarthy is another way of saying that grace can flow in what we perceive to be negative situations, like having your car break down or simply being delayed but avoiding a serious accident on the freeway as a result. In fact, that's how I try to see any kind of event that would otherwise be a cause for upset--the principle of which McCarthy speaks helps one to stay even-minded and cheerful at all times, even when things appear to be "terrible" by worldly standards.

All that said, there's also the principle of "meeting luck halfway" by putting out the kind of energy and activity that puts you in luck's path, so to speak, as opposed to passively waiting for luck or grace or whatever to come find you on its own. But you also have to allow for the unexpected, because often the grace flows in a way you didn't expect that's also better than what you'd hoped for.
