Here, in about three and a half minutes, you can see an Amish community raising a barn in only ten hours. Yes, a single day.
This barn-raising took place on May 13, 2014, but it isn’t unusual. (At least, among the Amish.) And it’s nothing new. Such events have happened for centuries, if not longer.
According to WiseGeek, “In a traditional barn raising, all members of the community were expected to cooperate, with the understanding that the favor would be returned… Typically the barn raising crew would frame the barn, roof it, and enclose it with exterior walls, leaving the finishing of the interior up to the individual farmer.”
I’m imagining that each day we live is a barn we build with everyone else. What kind of a barn shall we raise today?

I raise the barn of my community by offering a safe, brave place for us to know each other well, and then to be of service in our larger community.
I live within 20 minutes of Amish country, it's amazing how they so completely assist each other.♡
I raise the barn of human connection through Storytelling, today with the World Bank.
