This is an example of “blackout poetry” (also known as erasure poetry, redacted poetry, and a form of found poetry). It was created by Austin Kleon.
To make a blackout poem, all you need is a published text and a marker.
Give it a try:
Draw boxes over meaningful words or phrases on the page that you want to keep.
With your marker, color over everything else.

The ones I have made are in German. It was a collaborative project where another artist had an artist residency in Germany and she did found poems in English from some of Rilke's work and I did the same in German. She then set the found poems on pages facing each other with a woodcut print inbetween for each of the six poems we picked. It was a fun project which I really enjoyed. Words are amazing!
