Theo Jansen is a Dutch artist who creates “strandbeests,” or “beach animals.” His website describes the beests as “skeletons made from yellow plastic tube (Dutch electricity pipe) . . . able to walk and get their energy from the wind.” The “creatures” scoop up sand to help raise dunes to protect the Netherlands from rising sea levels.
Jansen brings a new animal to the beach each spring, experiments with it during the summer, then declares it extinct as he moves on to the evolution of a new creature in the fall and winter.
Do his creations look alive to you?
(My thanks to Theo Jansen.)

This is one of the most amazing things I've ever watched! So much engineering and then they move too....by wind. My head is exploding today, with this. Thank you!
The music alone is transporting & there’s even a link to the song there. What an amazing sight to see. Unbelievable. Thank you for sharing this 🙏
