“Sonder” is an invented noun, found in John Koenig’s Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows. He defines the word as “the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.”
This video, created and narrated by Koenig, beautifully illustrates the notion of sonder.
What would happen if we were to practice expanding our sense of sonder with every person we encountered?
