“Honeymoon with Big Joy”: A Deep Dive
Taking place via email (and the Substack app, if you have it)
October 2-October 31 (weekdays only)
Closing Zoom celebration on October 31, 2023
“Honeymoon with Big Joy” is a line from James Broughton’s poem “Easter Exultet.” It’s a great title for our next Deep Dive, during which we’ll immerse ourselves in the theme of “joy.”
This topic was suggested by several participants in our first Dive.
“I found the Dive's daily poems very thoughtful. Even if I didn't get a chance to write from the prompts, it was a great way to start my day.”

What exactly will you get in this Deep Dive?
Each weekday, I’ll send you an email containing:
a curated poem or brief prose selection to read and reflect upon (pieces from Mary Oliver, Lucille Clifton, Jane Hirshfield, Ross Gay, Rumi, and many more).
a brief companion video of “joy” music
a set of questions to use however you wish—e.g., as openings for meditation or prayer, as prompts for journaling or poetry-writing, as sparks for drawing or painting, as catalysts for change-making . . . Or ignore my questions altogether to go off in other directions!
In short, you’re the co-creator of this dive. Do as much or as little as you’d like, when you’d like, how you’d like, with the materials I provide. Set your own pace. Make your own way.
Too busy? Don’t worry about “keeping up”! Save the emails and return to them at your leisure. Or bookmark them in the Substack app. Or revisit them in The Raft archive.
“I really appreciated that I could do this at my own pace—being that I can't do very much at the moment. I felt like I was still a part of this, for which I am very grateful!”

Don’t forget our “Rafter Refuge,” a closing celebration on Zoom . . .
We’ll conclude this dive with an optional “Rafter Refuge,” a time of sharing on Zoom, Tuesday, October 31, 6:30-8:00PM Central. Sharing is voluntary. Listening, too, is valuable participation!

“I was easy on myself and did as much as I could when I could. One of the best things about a Deep Dive is being able to go back to The Raft to explore and re-explore those poems or prompts that really spoke to me.”
—ALG, Wisconsin
