“Waging Peace”: A Deep Dive
January 1-31, 2024 (weekdays only)
Taking place via email (and/or the Substack app, if you have it)
Optional closing Zoom celebration on February 1, 2024
“Waging Peace,” the title of our next Deep Dive, is directly inspired by Judyth Hill’s poem “Wage Peace.” Throughout January, we’ll immerse ourselves in the theme of peace using poetry, music, and contemplative prompts.
Several participants in our previous Dives suggested this topic. It’s especially relevant for our times. We’ll deliberately plunge into the creative tension between inner and outer peace to gain insight and build resilience.
WHAT DIVERS ARE SAYING
“Take the Dive. Fling out your arms and float.
No stress—just fun!”
—NS, Florida
“Beautiful, thoughtful, nurturing way to begin the day.”
—DAP, Illinois
What exactly will you get in this Deep Dive?
Each weekday, I’ll send you an email containing:
a curated poem to read and reflect upon
a brief companion music video (vocal or instrumental)
a set of questions to use however you wish—e.g., as openings for meditation or prayer, as prompts for journaling or poetry-writing, as sparks for drawing or painting, as catalysts for change-making . . . Or ignore my questions altogether to go off in other directions!
In short, you’re the co-creator of this dive. Do as much or as little as you’d like, when you’d like, how you’d like, with the materials I provide. Set your own pace. Make your own way.
Too busy? Don’t worry about “keeping up”! Save the emails and return to them at your leisure. Or bookmark them in the Substack app. Or revisit them in The Raft archive.

“It would take me hours to find these resources myself. This was a beautiful gift.”
—VC, Maryland

WHAT DIVERS ARE SAYING
“An opportunity to stop, take a breath, and rest the heart and mind in (and on) something generous and generative before returning to the joys and the sorrows of the day.”
—LMR, Scotland
“I was easy on myself and did as much as I could when I could. One of the best things about a Deep Dive is being able to go back to The Raft to explore and re-explore those poems or prompts that really spoke to me.”
